I would like to express my thanks to the cleaning services team at North Tees Hospital for their hard work and exemplary standards. I have been to North Tees Hospital as both a visitor and patient on many occasions in the past few years. The standard of cleanliness has always been extremely high. Toilet facilities in particular have not only looked clean and smelled of disinfectant but I have noticed them being regularly and thoroughly serviced. A few months ago whilst in a taxi, I mentioned to the driver that I might need surgery to correct and injury and said I would elect to have this done at James Cook because it is known as a major trauma centre. The driver replied that he would definitely choose North Tees Hospital because of how clean it is. It was only recently when accompanying a relative to a hospital in the South West and seeing how dirty facilities were there, that I realised how true the driver's words were. I think the cleaners at North Tees are doing a truly wonderful job and I hope they are told this as much as they deserve. Somehow I suspect that, as I have done until recently, their hard work and valuable service may be easily overlooked. We hear so much reported in the media about the life-threatening infections doctors and drug companies battle to cure, but very little about the many illnesses prevented each day through the dedication of those that clean our hospitals, as well as the cleaning team at North Tees do. Sincere thanks to them all, Laura Thurman
