"Excellent care - so far"

About: Royal Blackburn Hospital

Father admitted by ambulance last week - within 2.5 hours had received 5 separate lots of medication and had 2 x sets of x-rays. Admitted to MAU and from there to General Medical ward. All treatment so far excellent. Father then transferred to specialist chest ward where his only complaint has been that the medication routines are very inefficient - far more organised on his previous ward. Further tests have been carried out to discover that father has cancer - no clue before this episode, which was initially an admittance due to a chest infection. All staff have been kind, professional and approachable - to the extent that one grandson whose working hours mean he is unable to visit within the parameters of ward visiting was allowed to visit on Saturday morning - one happy granddad and very relieved grandson. Further tests are awaited and another ward move is a distinct possibility but, at this moment in time as a family we have no complaints about the treatment or care received, the inclusion of family in decisions - in fact when I, his daughter, rang the general ward to ask how dad was after his first night in hospital, I was asked how much of the care plan I was aware of - as I had been with dad all the previous day when he was initially admitted I was able to tell the nurse everything she had in front of her. I can only hope that the excellent care dad and for that matter the rest of the family has received thus far continues if /when he is moved. Thank you.
