"I did not have to wait long for ..."

About: Chesterfield Royal Hospital

(as the patient),

What I liked

I did not have to wait long for an appointment or my operation

What could be improved

I was treated on St. Marys ward. After my operation I needed to have 2 clear bladder scans to make sure my bladder was emptying o.k. When I first went to the loo the nurse scanned my bladder afterwards and said it was still quite full and to try "going" again which I did and it went o.k. however she did not wait to scan my bladder even though she said she would, it was 20 mins before she came back by then it had started to refill, she had gotten side tracked. Later I told another nurse I needed to go to the loo again, she said that was o.k. and she would be right back to scan my bladder. She never came. She went on her break and forgot me. Then she asked the doctor to speak to me to say they were keeping me in overnight, he never came, he forgot! Waited ages for someone to tell me what was happening, I felt so stressed by this point. After an hour I rang for the nurse to ask when I was going to get home. She said because I had not had 2 good scans they were keeping me in. I was not happy it was 7.30pm by this point. I told her there was nothing wrong with me and I wanted to go home I pointed out she had forgot me, at which point she could not look at me because she knew I was right. She said if I could go to the toilet twice and have 2 clear scans I could go home. I did that fine, but I could have been at home for hours, instead I got home at 8.45pm. Staff just kept forgeting me or had no time for me.

Anything else?

When my husband came to collect me, he came on the ward. There were 3 nurses at the nurses station and they just totally ignored him.

Not one of them acknowledged him or asked if they could help they were just chatting I could hear them. They just carried on as if he was not there. Luckily I was waiting for him and saw him arrive.

I know nurses are very busy but that was not a good experience and I would not like to be treated on that ward again. I left feeling strssed and cross.
