"Car parking"

About: Wansbeck Hospital / Accident and emergency

(as a relative),

I dropped my daughter and her very poorly baby at A &E. I found a payable parking space near the A&E department and proceeded to make payment. However, I could not see the screen to enter my registration number. This was late evening and a very dark winters night. I proceeded to another pay machine and had the very same problem ( I do hope the cameras are efficient enough to pick my movements up). At this stage, I proceeded inside A&E to assist my daughter with a very distressed baby. I was certainly not trying to avoid paying car parking charges in any shape or form. I have now received a car parking fine for £70 which I will be appealing against. It may be an Estates issue they the lighting was not working on that particular evening but I would be grateful if you could clarify why the lighting on or around the machines was not working on that particular evening.

Dear Sir/Madam I am so sorry that you have experienced these difficulties whilst attempting to use the new parking system. I can appreciate how difficult this was for you when you were busy trying to console a distressed baby. I do hope your grandchild is feeling a lot better now. With regards to your parking fine, I understand that you made every effort to pay and would like to see if we can help you, could you contact me at Joanne.Mackintosh@northumbria-healthcare.nhs.uk We really appreciate taking the time to share your experience of using the parking machine. Our estates team are aware of the lighting issues with the new machines and currently working to resolve this as soon as possible. The issue seems to be the very poor strength of the internal lighting in the machine that lights the keyboard, rather than the external lighting. I have shared your recent experience with them.
