"Emergency admission in Christmas week"

About: Chesterfield Royal Hospital

I can't praise the hospital highly enough. I was referred to EMU by my GP on Fri 28th December and within 3 hours I was on Devonshire Ward. Nurses on both wards were kind, answered my questions and although very busy, they helped me and the others on the wards when needed. On the Saturday between Xmas and New Year a consultant and his team saw me first thing and throughout the day other specialists popped by to try and assist with a diagnosis. I had a scan and Xray, no waiting around. By 5pm I had a diagnosis and was in theatre at midnight. The anesthatist did a brilliant job of relaxing me and the nurses back on the ward looked after me well. The ward was clean, hot drinks were kind and water were given out regularly. Only 2 minor nIggles - it took a long time to get discharged but the nurse explained that it was due to it being a Sunday and no admin staff were on duty. The other niggle is that one patient in my bay was constantly shouting into her mobile phone. Maybe gentle reminder to patients and visitors about considering others when on phones would be I good idea. I had the choice between going to Kings Mill or Chesterfield and if I had to make the ch again I would definitely choose the latter. A horrible experience made bearable by such excellent staff and facilities.
