"Care for my husband"

About: Southend Hospital

Just before Christmas my husband had a stroke which left his left hand side paralysed. My husband does not like to "make a scene" and so I drove him to hospital and from the minute the Paramedic rushed to get him out of the back of the car in a wheelchair and into A & E and then the stroke team taking over was just fantastic. His whole stay in hospital which was on Benfleet Ward and then Paglesham Ward was no less than a miracle in my eyes; especially the clot busting drug. The staff all worked as a team and are fantastic at their jobs. The doctors, nurses and physio's all explained what was happening and what was going to happen throughout his stay and beyond. He left the hospital on Christmas Eve and from then till now physiotherapists have visited our house, sometimes twice a day and he is now walking and has got a lot of the use back in his arm. We cannot thank you all enough. Lesley

Dear Lesley,

Many thanks for your kind comments about our Stroke services. They are rightly proud of the service that they provide and feedback such as yours helps them reinforce with their staff the good job that they are doing. I will be passing your comments on and the team will be thrilled to receive them. I hope your husband continues to make good progress and I would like to wish you both, on behalf of the hospital, well.
