"Advocate advised on what was an extremely stressful incident"

About: Advocacy Support Cymru

(as the patient),

Alexander from Advocacy Support Cymru was extremely helpful. He has a caring manner and is a good listener. He was able to advise on what was an extremely stressful incident.

I was accused of being drunk in August 2013 when in fact I suffer with anxiety, having PTSD and depression, tics and Asperger type symptoms.

I told the police on several occasions that I had mental health issues. They showed little concern for this.

This led to me being arrested, locked up for 13 hours and having to go to court and now have a record.

I felt I had been treated unfairly by police and Alex assisted in helping to make a complaint to the police complaints as I feel the police should have a better understanding of mental health issues.

Alex was able to listen and I felt supported. He has kept both my mother and myself up to date with what has been going on.

My mother has found information about yourself via either MIND or Diverse Cymru, as we both felt I had been dealt with unjustly.

I cannot help my behaviours at times and really wish I could. I now fear it it happens again I will be arrested.

In December, I have since had two interviews with the inspector at the police station and my complaint has been investigated.

It has been found that the police and mental health nurse did not listen to me, they did not share information, they did not follow procedures.

The police are now going to give me an apology in writing and change their way in how they deal with people with mental health issues.
