"Frighteningly incompetent"

About: Gloucestershire Royal Hospital

My wife was taken by ambulance to Cheltenham A&E. She has been suffering for months with dangerously high blood pressure spikes and a cardiologist had requested she be taken immediately to A&E when the next episode occurred. He had even provided a letter outlining the situation and requesting a few basic obs to help diagnosis. Despite being given this information on arrival, NONE of these things were carried out. All that was required was urine collection, blood pressure reading and ECG. Nobody listened. No bloods were taken. She hadn't even been given a wrist label after 3 hours sitting in bed. I'm glad she didn't attempt to get up herself to go to the toilet as she is prone to falls and who knows how they would've identified her if she fell in the corridor. A doctor only appeared when I told staff we were leaving. So my wife will continue to suffer and be at risk of serious complications because nobody bothered to read a letter and do a few tests. They simply do not care. The frustration and worry is making me ill. I don't know where to turn to. My advice to others: Approach with extreme caution and take notes of everything they say or do (in this case, don't do) I think my MP is probably the next stop as data regarding this A&E department is being collected. Don't think it will save my wife though.

Dear Sir, Many thanks for taking the time to share this feedback. We're very sorry to hear you and your wife have had such a negative experience of our services and staff at A&E. We'd like to investigate this further but in order to do this we would need a few more details. Would you be happy to speak to our PALS team so they can find out a bit more? You can either call them for free on 0800 019 3282 or email pals.gloucestershirehospitals@glos.nhs.uk Best wishes The team at Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust
