"My fathers poor coordinated care and the impact on his life"

About: Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust - City Campus / Clinical haematology

(as a relative),

My father has two unrelated conditions but one essential treatment relies on the other being completed.

His GP was far too slow to refer him for one of his problems. This resulted in him being in pain and unable to leave the house all over xmas and new year. He is now receiving treatment.

He contacted his haematology consultant to request an earlier appointment because he was deteriorating and has lost so much weight. He is also very breathless.

He spoke to a nurse practitioner who advised him no earlier appointment available but she would do what she could to ensure that he would not have to wait too long to be seen. He waited 3 and a quarter hours to be told in one minute that he needed to go back to his GP.

He has contacted his GP and the earliest appointment is 4 weeks. In a matter of months he has gone from being a fit happy man to being unable to climb the stairs or go out. I have not had a reply from his consultant to discuss after leaving a message.

Appalling treatment and quite unbelievable that he has been passed from pillar to post and he is clearly very ill.
