"waiting times"

My doctors appointment was 17/10/13 - my first appointment at the orthopedics department was 02/12/13 ... almost 7 weeks - your statistics show an average of just under 29 days. The consultant was very good and after discussion recommended that I have surgery. I received a letter on 30/12/13 ... dated 18/12 (so 16 days to type a letter) and posted on 27/12 (so 9 further days to actually get the letter in the post) that told me I was on the waiting list. No indication as to how long I would be on the list before surgery. Over 2 weeks later now and I still havent heard anything... not even a date for my pre-op. I'm now up to 13 weeks since my doctors appointment - your statistics show an average of 15 weeks to surgery. I cant understand how departments cant issue appointments at least 2 months in the future... surely schedules are drawn up well in advance? I know that emergencies will take priority, and scheduled operations may have to be delayed, but to keep a patient better informed would prevent a lot of anxiety.
