"Dundee Dental Hospital did not address my patient concerns "

About: Dundee Dental Hospital / Dental Services

(as the patient),

I was waiting around 18 months to have wisdom teeth removed. This was a long wait considering how much pain I was experiencing, but is not the main basis for my upset.

On the day, I was nervous and scared, and I required the cannulisation to receive twilight sedation. I had spoken with the doctor beforehand that morning as emla cream was applied and it was said my husband could come in with me for the procedure.

(I had my friend present at a previous wisdom tooth removal).

However, the doctor denied him access which greatly distressed me.

The doctor was very rough with the cannulisation (I have to do these myself in my line of work and it was rough). I was left with a bruise a month and still have a scar from it.

I was panicking when the sedation was taking hold and there was no sympathy shown. The doctor told me to sort myself out.

My first wisdom tooth was tricky to get out, but my mouth was absolutely butchered. I have problems with an adjacent tooth as the doctor chipped a big chunk off it. A coating was then put on the tooth which my dentist described as "cement" to cover the chip.

It took 3 appointments to even get it all off. The doctor also sewed my gum to my cheek. I developed dry socket in this site and needed weeks of additional care.

For the second wisdom tooth, the doctor did not even administer local aesthetic, which was commented on by myself and the lovely dental nurse who was working too. The doctor ignored us both and ripped out the tooth, with me screaming through the sedation in pain. I was told "that's enough out of you".

Where, in the code of conduct, is any of this acceptable? I'm a married woman in my 20's. I feel I was spoken to like a stupid child. I was upset and scared as I had never had sedation before, nor had I been cannulised, yet this apparently notorious doctor (from what iv heard) felt it appropriate to disregard the patients concerns. Absolutely shocking.
