I was a few weeks pregnant, had done many tests and been to see my GP. I started experiencing cramps and slight bleeding. GP told me this could be very normal and if it gets worse to call NHS direct or get emergency appointment at Doctors. One night at approx. 22:30 my cramps and bleeding got worse and I called NHS direct and was informed to go to A&E ASAP for a scan. To make this shorter: We informed the receptionist of the facts and what we had been told and we were told to go and wait. We were there for more than 5 hours and it didn't even seem busy. The urine test did not show a positive result. they wanted to send us home. After my husband protested they performed a blood test. the physical result for this blood test is am arm that is bruised and swollen all the way up (a symptom I have never had). So a few hours later after the nurse had promised a few occasions she would check the results and never did a doctor called us in. did a brief physical examination and had a confused look. we asked about the blood results which she did not seem to know anything about. so she went to look and after some collaboration between her and another doctor she had this advice: 1) that the blood result showed low levels of HGC 2) false positives on urine tests are common (untrue) 3) we had never been pregnant 4) this was a normal period just late the only true fact she gave us was the levels of HGC (which were correct for the stage of pregnancy we were in) she told us we were not pregnant and we were shooed out as quickly as possible with no bedside manner or sympathy. they were not interested. After this (although we did not believe the information given but where else could we go?) I started passing lots of blood and clots. We had to go to our GP to get confirmation that we were experiencing a miscarriage and get advice after spending so much time in A&E for nothing. he also confirmed that home pregnancy tests are more reliable than the ones in surgery's for many early pregnancies. I would not recommend this hospital to anyone I know and after hearing many stories about this hospital I never thought I would have a horror story of my own.
