"Hit and miss"

About: Moorfields Eye Hospital (City Road Campus)

I had pain in my eye one evening so chose to head to moorfields. I was seen in A&E after a 3 hour wait. The nurses were friendly and professional. The doctor on duty however wasn't as friendly. He did diagnose my problem and start me on the right treatment, but pretty much had a go at me for coming in the evening for my problem and not waiting till the morning. He deemed my problem not urgent but fellow opticians and other opthamologists said i was to correct to go asap. Despite the end i grateful to be seen in all fairness with the right treatment. I had my follow up a week ago. This was a shambles. I was seen in clinic 5 with an appointment at 3pm. I attended expecting a maximum 30min wait, but ended up waiting 3 hrs, which i never thought possible outside of A&E. I feel the best system would be to just allocate patients appointment times 3pm, 3:15, 330 etc. Instead they just tell 15 odd patients to arrive at 3pm and just wait. Again despite the disappoint the doctors were very good and professional and i cannot fault them.

Thank you for this helpful feedback. I'm glad your clinical care was good, but am sorry you had to wait and that your A&E doctor was less friendly than other staff. I will pass your comments on to both the A&E and the outpatient teams. We know we have issues with appointments in the latter and are working to improve this, but it's taking time.
