About: Southend Hospital

Visited A&e in November 2013 with a terrible headache and burning sensation every where on my body and muscles pain , Only to be told that they was nothing wrong with me I needed a holiday. How can you need a holiday while you are so much in pain?? The people who are suppose to be helping us are the same people who make us feel like we are nothing and we deserve to be treated like a piece of dirt. It makes me afraid to go there if I'm not well up to date and very much afraid to ask for help.

I was truly sorry to learn of your experience in the A&E department. We would always expect or staff to assist patients in any way they can and not to make unhelpful remarks, even if they are meant in jest. I will be passing this on to the manager of the A&E department and will ask them to communicate to all staff the unacceptable nature of the comments made. If you would like us to look into this in more depth then please contact our complaints team who will be able to take more specific details from you and commence an investigation. They can be contacted by e-mail at complaints@southend.nhs.uk Kind regards Steve McEwen Patient Experience Lead
