i had a kidney removed due to cancer on ward 15 ,on arrival i was put in the main waiting room for 2half hours as there was no bed ,i was evenually given a bed on ward 14 and a meal( ,i was supposed to be nil by mouth from 6pm ,)i was assured i was 1st on the list in the morning this didnt happen i eventually went in theatre at 2 45 pm ,i was in recovery and then put on ward 15 ,the nursing staff was far too busy moving beds and cleaning to give the patients any attention ,i was told i would be going home the following morning as they needed the bed for his next days list this was within 6 hours of major surgery ,i was taken out of bed by physios at 7am the next day to see if i was fit to go home .on moving i bled from my drain and was put back into bed ,the food was inedible i asked a nurse if she would eat the soup she offered me and she said no way !i waited till my wife came to get me a sandwich , on discharge day i had to have hospital transport ,which i was sat in a chair waiting in the corridor for 12 hours .my discharge papers was not filled in no aftercare or drug instructions was filled in no information about what i had had done all left blank my own gp had to treat me for an infection of my wound but was unable to access any results as they had not (ward 15) filled in the required paperwork .it is now 6 weeks since my operation and i have not even had a follow up appointment .this experience has made me very dissillusioned with the n h s ,i require further surgery but i am having second thoughts on whether i will due to the poor care .
