"Complex total knee replacement - success"

About: West Middlesex University Hospital

On Nov. 26th I had a knee replacement and tibia reconstruction. The care whcih I received prior to & during the procedure was exemplary, as was the nursing care i received in recovery and subsequently in Syon 2 Ward. The team consulted with me where appropriate & explained their actions which was important as I had never before undergone surgery. I am a risk management professional & they clearly explained the risks entailed in the procedure. I was absolutely delighted at the speed with whcih I was walking normally and unaided and the serious bend in my affected leg is now so straight that it is the first thing people notice. The effect of the operation has given me a new lease of life and afetr less than 6 weeks I have been able to walk 2 miles at a time. As someone who has previously been a keen walker this has been particularly encouraging. One slight problem was that my notes had not been referred to outpatients physiotherapy until I phoned but then an early appointment was arranged and the physio treatment has now been successfully completed. Thank you to all concerned, surgeons, anaestetists, theatre staff and ward nurses.
