What I liked
The admissions unit was friendly, OK so I had to wait for my slot but everyone in the department were extremely efficient, professional and importantly kept the patients at ease. Anesthetest/Consultants were very well prepared and ready for us all. The operation and recovery process all performed professionally. Once on the ward the attention I received was excellent particularly during the immediate post-op period. The support from all the ward staff was excellent including the physio staff. It made me feel comfortable and to my surprise I was able to leave just 2 days after my operation. Not bad after Spinal deompression surgery. Simply I arrived on the Tuesday morning at 07.30, surgery at 13.00 allowed to go home on Thursday afternoon at about 15.00.
What could be improved
Meal arrangements for new ward arrivals seemed confusing perhaps you need a system to offer a menu in admissions. I appreciate that the onus may be on other things at that time but it is just an idea.
Anything else?
This was my first time in this situation and having heard the stories about the NHS I must admit to being apprehensive but the way CGH operates is to be commended.
Thank you.
