"Disappointed by lack of breastfeeding support"

About: Stafford Hospital / Maternity care Stafford Hospital / Paediatrics

(as the patient),

I had my daughter in April at Staffordshire General Hospital. The service I received that day on the delivery suite was great, my only criticism was they did a stock check of the beds while I was in labour, and they made me get up and into a chair so they could strip my bed and have a look at it. I can't say I was pleased about having strange men enter the room while I was puffing and panting.

Anyway, all the other service was great, and they were really helpful.

However, when my daughter was 4 days old, I returned to the hospital to seek help with breastfeeding. I was in a lot of pain and didn't want to give in like I did with my son. I was determined to get some help. So I went with my husband, son and new baby daughter to the hospital (I had to take my husband as I couldn't walk very well). We went in and I said I'd like some help with breastfeeding, so they gave me somewhere to wait and I waited for an hour. I kept going back to the desk (Despite not being able to walk very well) and reminding them I was there. Trying to keep a three year old busy for an hour is quite a task!

We left after an hour having received NO help. Despite my husband and I asking for help several times, no-one came to help. I went home very upset and got help from other sources.
