"APPALLING TREATMENT"

About: Tameside General Hospital

My mum had a chest X-ray which showed something suspicious so was called back for further tests, CT scan, lung function test, blood tests and bronchoscopy, when we went for results consultants words were "well you might have lung cancer or you might have TB, if it's cancer there's nothing I can do so I'll treat you for TB", I said surely if there's a chance of cancer we need further tests to confirm, he said lung function wasn't good they won't do the test. He gave her a prescription for TB Drugs and sent us away. How can he say that, we are devastated and seeking second opinion, we came away not knowing if my mum has lung cancer a deadly disease or TB a contagious illness! People like him should not be able to practice, we will not be returning to Shameside to see that prat again!!

I am sorry that your experience during your visit was not satisfactory. This is certainly not the standard of care we expect for our patients. Please can I ask that you contact the complaints department on 0161 922 4466, or email Pals@tgh.nhs.uk so that we can address this issue as a matter of urgency. Kind regards, John Goodenough Director of Nursing ‘’Would you like to help the hospital to improve its services further? We are currently looking for patients and carers to become involved in a development called “Patient Stories”. We want to know more about our services from the point of view of those who received them – what was good, bad, what could be improved, what should be changed. Want to know more about what’s involved? Please contact John Goodenough, Director of Nursing at john.goodenough@tgh.nhs.uk
