"Rude consultant and inexperienced doctor"

About: Queen's Hospital (Romford)

I was diagnosed with gall stones in Jan 2013 (have put up with it for nearly a year now). In July / August of this year, was referred to a hospital consultant, and found her to be rude and it was a humiliating experience for me because she started screaming at me and reprimanding me like I was a school child, for getting panicky during the endescopy. Next time, I saw a doctor at the hospital, I think around October and she told me 'it looks like you are coping fine with the gall stones' - except that she hadn't even bothered to ask me how I was coping with them. When I pointed this out to her, then she asked me, and I told her I was feeling nauseau, diarrhea, severe dull pain in my middle and left upper abdomin which kept moving to my back (at one point I thought I was having a stroke as the pain had got that bad), shaking and sweating. I'm not keen to have surgery to have my gall bladder removed as I have spoken to numerous people who have had this done and they said their diarrhea / pain hasn't stopped. I have been informed by A&E, as well as the hospital doctor that this is my only option, otherwise, I just need to put up with it. I asked her what could be done about the diarrhea and pain caused by the gall stones. She dismissed the fact that the diarrhea was occuring as a result of the gallstones, and thereby concluded that she suspected that I was lactose intolerant (despite having scan done twice over a period of 6 months, which had first confirmed two gall stones, and thereafter showing that this had turned into multiple). Go figure ....

Thank you for your feedback. I am sorry to hear that felt our consultant was rude and that you are not happy with their responses to your questions. To be able to investigate this further I will need more information from you. Please contact me through our PALS team on 01708 435 454 or email PALS@bhrhospitals.nhs.uk so this can be looked into thoroughly. Yours sincerely, Stephen Burgess Medical Director
