I've been in and out of the Queen Elizabeth hospital for treatment for IBD (inflammatory bowel disease) and the care I've had has not been good.
It feels like you might as well be invisible, because the nursing staff I saw from all levels and departments didn't seem to see me. They don't engage in conversation with me and some don't even know my name. I could not get effective pain relief and indeed did not get prescribed medications, even though the records showed that I’d had all of my meds and at the specified times. They all contradicted each other and told me a thousand different variants of the truth, which lead to confusion and scared me half to death. The wards I saw were dirty, and infection control looked rubbish - I caught the C diff bug! Within 30 minutes of being informed I had it they had me in quarantine and had given me antibiotics. God I wish they had been that quick with my pain relief and meds! I often waited 24 hours, and in some instances they didn't have the meds I needed, and so I had to ask my mam to bring prescriptions in from home. I could go on and on... my advice, don't ever go the QE!
