"A & E staff are amazing ward staff dreadful"

About: Wexham Park Hospital

In the past visit to A and E were good and I received very good service also with my elderly father staff were kind and attentive. The wards are dreadful and have a very bad reputation and reports of uncaring staff who are indifferent to patients needs. There prime target seems to be their own needs and not that of the patients. I am terrified that my self or member of my immediate family would ever be in the unfortunate position to have to be admitted to this hospital. The size of the A & E unit is too small and under staffed for the size of the area and volume of patients which it provides treatment for. When I visited a friend who had been admitted last year she was terrified and could not wait to get out. she said the nurses did not seem to care they just lazed around the nursing station. Their attitude was disgusting and intimidating and she was too afraid to complain in case they made her stay more uncomfortable. This hospital has always had bad press but never as bad as the current scary stories and experiences reported. I am waiting for an operation on my hand and have told the consultant that I would prefer this carried out anywhere else but Wexham Park. I believe there are some extremely good Doctors and Nurses at Wexham park who are badly let down by very poor nursing back up on the wards etc. The place should be pulled down. Even my GP would not recommend it and shudders at the mention of the place. Bring back the old fashioned Matron who ruled with a rod of iron.

It is disappointing to hear of your view of the hospital. We have recently redesigned our A&E Department to help us manage with the increasing number of patients that we see. Each ward also has a Matron and this role has been in place now for several years. We do hope that any further visits you have are more positive and that you will be able to notice the improvements that are taking place.
