"Experienced Racism"

About: The Princess Royal Hospital (Telford)

I attended with my daughter I had a horrid experience I was treated differently (not in a good way) to other patients waiting, felt threatened and unwanted. The people on A&E didn't care about the welfare of my daughter or me and kept us waiting for hours, people who came in after us were seen before us for what appeared to be minor issues. I think some work needs to be done with regards to the bedside manner of the nurses in A&E. Perhaps some training in diversity and inclusion but as with so many of our public services racism is institutionalised.

Dear Anonymous We are very distraught to hear that you feel you experienced racism in the A&E department at the Princess Royal Hospital. All staff are expected to attend regular equality and diversity training - and, more importantly, to put this into practice. For example, equality and diversity is part of the annual appraisal process which plays a part in deciding whether staff progress to the next salary scale. Now, unfortunately the NHS Choices does not share your contact details with us. Whilst your feedback will be shared with the department so that they are aware of how this made you feel and can use this as part of staff training and development, we would encourage you to contact us direct to talk to us about your experience and help us to take action. Our Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS) is there to listen and learn. It is located near the main entrace at the Princess Royal Hospital or you can contact PALS by telephone on 01952 282888. More information is available on our website at http://www.sath.nhs.uk/patients-and-visitors/pals/ We would like to thank you for sharing your feedback so that we can learn and improve.
