"A&E - No faith in any health service anymore!..."

About: Medway Maritime Hospital

My mother was taken in by ambulance for suspected angina, and terrible chest pains, was then put in waiting room for 4 hours too still not be seen, after the A+E was over flowing with people, no seating! my mother gave up waiting due to the 4 hours being up and every time asking when to be seen they gave yet gave another hours wait! on top of what we had already waited! my mother signed herself out and saw our gp the next day very dissatisfied. will go maidstone A+E from now on! Medway have become useless! and staff in A+E have become increasingly rude and snappy! Sort it out! i have no faith in any health service anymore!

I am very sorry that your mother found her experience distressing and that she had to wait for some time in the emergency department. The department is always under pressure especially during the winter months when there is an increase in admissions. The Trust is however in the process of developing plans to improve the emergency department and make changes that are aimed at reducing waiting times and improving other aspects of the department. Work is already underway with the first phase to be complete in January. Again I would like to apologise about the time your mother had to wait in ED, but would like to reassure you that steps are being taking to improve the area. If you would like to contact me to discuss your concerns further please email inmaculada.diaz-alonso@medway.nhs.uk Inmaculada Diaz Alonso Clinical Nurse Lead, Emergency Department
