"fantastic care in the A&E"

About: Barnet Hospital

my 89 year old mother had a fall whilst shopping in Barnet she had a very painful hip and I was worried it may be broken. I took her into barnet and was seen by a smiley young receptionist who explained to us what would happen next. We were seen by the triage nurse who gave her seom pain killers and took her through to what seemed to be avery busy department. We were sent to xray followed by an examinationn by a young doctor. My mother had not broken her hip but did need to see the physiowho provided some support to make sure she would be safe at home. There were lots of ambulance arrivals and one patient was drunk and swearing at the staff with very offensive language. A very calm young male nurse was managing the situation very well. This behaviour should not be tolerated and I felt very sorry for the nurses. Despite all of the noise and ambulance arrivals and what seemed to be lots building work the area was organised and seemed to very well run. I was happy to see a matron working with the staff and patients I thought that matrons had been abolished. We were offered tea and food by a support worker. which was well recieved by my mother. We did spend over 3.5 hours in the A&E but I can only have praise for the staff who were working in difficult conditions. My only negetive point is that the security officer did not appear to provide support for the staff when they were dealing with the offensive and abusive patient when the nurses should hve been released look after patients who needed them, He was scruffy and inaffective.

I would like to thank you for taking the time to leave positive feedback regarding your experience of using our emergency services at Barnet Hospital. I will ensure that this praise is logged into our governance system and circulated to the Matron and Consultant for them to cascade to their teams. Your comment regarding the security guuard will be passed onto our Estates and Facilities team to review and take appropriate action.
