I recently spent 3 days in the UK visiting my 86 year old mum at Wansbeck Hospital just 36 hours after she had fractured her hip. I was super impressed with all aspects of her care. From theoutset, the level of communication was excellent with the consultant surgeon calling me overseas before and following the surgery with updates. Then on to the ward 6 Orthopedic team who kept a very well run ship, exhibiting compassion, attention to detail, regularity, cleanliness, courtesy, genuine interest and all the things you'd want a nursing staff to do. Not just the nurses either. The ward attendents, the physicians and the house-officers were all focused on make the experience as pleasant (under the circumstances) as possible and - most importantly - a success. My mum transferred back to Hexham General to further rehabilitate this morning. I hope the experience will repeat itself there. Maybe one more comment - I am thinking the Wansbeck experience was probably as successful as it was in part because of the excellent staffing levels in my mum's ward. I can imaging how these same caring nurses and their colleagues - if put in an overburdened and understaffed ward environment - would not have been able to flourish as well as they did for my family. Thank you again Wansbeck for all you did to help us.
