"Excellent staff, terrible parking"

About: Leicester Royal Infirmary

I can not praise the staff in children's outpatient clinic. They were all fantastic and treated my baby daughter so well. But this 5 star treatment was overshadowed by the appalling parking at Leicester Royal Infirmary. We arrived 90 minutes early to accommodate for parking, but the queue for the car park was going round the block and disrupting traffic and ambulances on the main road. I had to park a good 30 minutes walk away in the city centre, which was very expensive. The weather was cold, wet and windy. My baby has respiratory problems and walking so far in this horrible weather was not good for her. Her next appointment is in the middle if January where there is a possibility of snow. If the parking problems are not resolved I will consider asking to be referred to Birmingham Children's hospital, so we do not have to walk so far in the wintry weather.

Dear reviewer, Thank you for taking the time to post your comments about Leicester Royal Infirmary. We really value your kind words about the excellent clinical service you and your baby daughter received at Children’s Outpatients clinic and have passed your praise onto the team. We are extremely sorry that you were disappointed with the parking facilities on site. We are very aware that parking is an ongoing problem, particularly at the Royal, and we are doing everything we can to address this. As part of a new £48m investment to improve our Emergency Department, we have plans to build a new onsite multi-storey car park for patients and staff, which we hope will be open by the end of 2015. In the meantime, we are doing all we can to find as many alternative options as possible. For example, we have recently formed a new partnership with NCP Welford Road (above Bannatynes Health Club) to offer patient and visitor parking at the same rate as the hospital, which is less than a 10 minute walk from the Royal. For more information about parking at NCP, or travel to Leicester’s Hospitals, you can visit www.leicestershospitals.nhs.uk/patients/getting-to-hospital/leicester-royal-infirmary/car-travel-and-parking/ If you have specific question, you can also contact our Travelwise Manager, Ruth Ward on Ruth.Ward@uhl-tr.nhs.uk who would be happy to help you where possible. Kind regards Communications Team Leicester’s Hospitals
