"Outstanding levels of care from the whole team"

About: Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital NHS Trust HQ

Following a number of years of worsening lung disease, due to Alpha 1 Antitrypsin Deficiency, and assessment for lung transplantation, I was referred back to LHCH from Wythenshaw Hospital to investigate a suspicious mass which had shown growth over a number of CT Scans. I was naturally very afraid of what to expect and was incredibly vulnerable at the time. The doctor who had made my initial referral for transplant assessment and was aware of my case as I had met her several times in clinic. I have always found her to be an excellent Dr, and a genuinely caring individual, and I can't praise her enough for the way she got me through this period, she went above and beyond the call of duty to see me at short notice and explained honestly and thoroughly the situation I was facing. I felt my care was at the core of any decisions being made and I was confident that I was being looked after by the best possible team. I was quickly referred into LHCH the doctors both took the time to talk me through options and explain what to expect. I then met with surgeon and he made it clear that my involvement in any decisions was respected and he was incredibly professional, and caring, I couldn't have felt more confident in his competence and ability. My surgery was scheduled very efficiently and I genuinely felt that I was in the best possible hands and can't stress enough that this was due entirely to the team. I was visited for therapy in the run up to my surgery and she was brilliant at helping me to rationalise my fears and prepare myself to go into surgery with the right mental attitude. Myself and my family have been respected, reassured and received nothing but the best levels of care and information. I was admitted to Cedar ward the day before my operation and the standards are impeccable, the ward is kept to the highest standard of cleanliness and every single member of the nursing and care team treated me with respect and support. I was able to recover well from my surgery and was visited by both the doctor and the surgeon during recovery. I returned home within the week and follow up has been arranged. From chatting with other patients on my ward, it was evident that my experience of this amazing hospital is typical and that this team are a credit to the NHS.
