I fell pregnant in November 2013, I received care from the pendle midwives during my pregnancy and had my scan in the antenatal department at Burnley General. I found this service to be fantastic. The midwives were brilliant in both my care and in the care of my unborn baby. My pregnancy was uneventful but due to previous health problems I did receive care from the consultants as well. I went into labour on the 23rd of August, 3 2days after my due date, I went into the hospital after having contractions all day. I was examined by a midwife on the delivery suite and she was lovely explaining things to me and ensuring I felt safe. She consulted the doctor when she found that I had not progressed and that my waters had been leaking. It was decided that I should stay, I was put onto an induction drip. My labour was slow so the midwife finally had to leave and passed me over to another midwife who again was fantastic. They stayed with me and my baby, hardly leaving my side during the whole time. She also went that extra mile to look after my Husband and keeping him calmed and making him feel included. She even brought him a cup of tea to keep his strength up. Poppy was born by forceps delivery on the 24th of August as her heart had begun to dip, during this time I was kept informed of what was happening and why. Every member of staff I met during the whole time were fantastic and I really wouldnt fault them at all. The facilities were great also and my only complaint was that there was no comfortable seating for my husband who spent the whole 18hours by my side. After I had given birth the standard of care was maintained and I was transferred to the post natal ward. Again the staff were excellent, the food was good and I felt well looked after and supported, the ward were small however and the beds very close together. I was unable to sleep for any of my stay due to the noise but I guess this is unavoidable when 4 newborns and 4 mums are sharing a room. I continued to receive the same level of care on my return home having regular visit from the community midwives and health visitorswho provided with a level of support taylored to my needs. This is still continuing. I would like to say a big thankyou to everybody involved in my care and that of baby Poppy. I would reccommend this service to others. I hope that the Midwives and Healths visitors are given the appreciation and support they deserve from the seniors managers in the health trust.
