About: Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham

After a number of times my grandad has been in the Qehb he has had perfect service, but there is one small problem after his op he was able to eat and drink, the nurse made him a cup of tea and offered him a sandwich, bit heavy on the old belly for him so he asked for something light, ie tost to be told we dont do it! total shock such a large trust does not do toast im sorry but i think this is a joke and really does need to be looked at.....

Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback on your experience at Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham. We welcome all feedback and would like to assure you that all comments are taken seriously and acted upon as part of our ongoing commitment to improving patient experience. Please accept our apologies for the delay in posting a response. Your feedback has been forwarded to the senior manager responsible for patient food who was sorry to hear that your Grandad was disappointed not to be offered toast during his stay with us. Unfortunately, the majority of unnecessary fire service call outs to hospitals are caused by toasters triggering very sensitive smoke alarms. These smoke alarms are in place for the safety of patients and are set off by even the smallest amount of smoke from a toaster. It is for this reason toasters are not permitted in a ward setting. To ensure people have choice, we actively encourage patients to give us feedback on our menus through our bedside surveys. If asked, catering staff are always happy to talk through the food options available with patients directly, and will work hard to accommodate these wherever possible. The manager would be very happy to discuss your Grandad’s experience further. If you would like to do this please make contact via our Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS) team who will also be pleased to assist. PALS can be contacted by phone 0121 371 3280, by email PALS@uhb.nhs.uk , via the hospital website http://www.uhb.nhs.uk/pals-form.htm or in person by dropping in between 9am – 4.30pm (Mon-Fri) to the PALS office located to the left of the Information Desk in the main entrance of the new Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham.
