"Laparoscopy hysteroscopy dye test"

About: Frimley Park Hospital (Frimley)

Hi All. I wanted to share my experience of laparoscopy, hysteroscopy and dye test which I had 3 days ago so it will help others who are awaiting this procedure. We are trying to conceive since 3 years and all the tests including my husband’s are all perfectly normal (except for Vitamin D deficiency for which I am taking supplements) . So the Consultant suggested laparoscopy, hysteroscopy and dye test to check the tubes, ovaries and uterus. It seemed like a logical step forward and so I agreed. But for one month before the procedure, I was terrified about it. I was really so anxious about the procedure, general anesthesia just everything about it. However everything was much better than expected. All the staff at the hospital are extremely good and they know what they are doing. Also during the procedure itself, you will not feel a thing ! You will only feel the discomfort from the IV canula and within seconds of anesthetic administration you are completely out and yes, it’s so true when they say before you know it, you will be in recovery. When I woke up, I felt very drowsy but gradually became oriented. There was a nurse by my side when I woke up. I had few chills and shivers for about half an hour, but my temperature was ok, so nothing was done and it resolved on its own. Then I was transferred to the ward, where I was so pleased to see my husband . I felt very weak and there was some bleeding for few hours . Also I had some burning sensation when I went to the toilet and felt like going to the bathroom, every 20 minutes on the first night. However the urine test was ok and there was no infection. I spent the night in the hospital, because my procedure was in the afternoon. Next morning, I felt a lot better, although burning sensation persisted , but this has resolved on its own too on the 3rd day post-op. For couple of days I had shoulder pain too which was relieved with the painkillers. I had this procedure on thursday and got back to work on Monday. And yes, the results of the procedure was all ok, including the tubes which are patent. So we are really excited to start trying again and hope that this cycle will be the one !

Thank you so much for sharing this. Hearing another patient’s experience is so helpful and reassuring for anyone who is coming in for a similar procedure, particularly if they are apprehensive. We are pleased that this was a positive experience and we have our fingers crossed for you for the future!
