"Wonderful, caring NHS in Leeds"

About: Leeds General Infirmary / Accident and emergency

(as a relative),

My husband was diagnosed (very quickly after a routine diabetic blood test) with a form of leukemia. Our GP made a referral immediately and within a few weeks my husband was seen.

He attends Bexley Wing at St James' every six weeks. He is 82 but has been treated with the utmost respect and kindness and everything that can be done has been. Since then, at the beginning of August he had a problem with his eye and we went into LGI (Leeds) A & E. In the event we had gone to the wrong hospital but we were looked after, not sent away, and the Doctor persisted for some time even though he was very busy, to get us an appoint the next morning at St. James.

From then on the professionalism and kindness shown by all in the Ophthalmology department prevented my husband going blind. He was diagnosed with Giant Cell Arteritis. It is now a few days into September and my husband has been referred on to another consultant at Chapel Allerton for treatment. This is the best place in the world and the NHS over the years have given their time and expertise to us. How can you ever find a way to say thank you - but we do. To all of you in the NHS, thank you!

Thank you for taking the time to tell us about your husband's experience of the NHS in Leeds. It is good to hear that the services Leeds Primary Care Trust (PCT) is commissioning are of a high standard.
