I attended the Rheumatology clinic at Broadgreen hospital yesterday and came away wondering if the clock had been turned back 30 years. I have Osteoarthritis and usually have cortisone injections in my thumbs which help considerably. Unfortunately I had to cancel my annual appointment in July so yesterday my appointment for a consultation was well overdue and I was relieved to finally have a consultation. The consultant I saw did not introduce herself nor seem particularly interested in what I had to say. When I told her my thumbs were very painful, she told me my pain was not bad enough to warrant injections and to go back and see them when it got worse. I had my disabled daughter with me and i wondered if she thought if I could push a wheel chair I can't be in that much discomfort. Well, let me tell you, when you are a carer you crawl out of bed when you are not well because the person you are caring for depends on you 24/7. I can be in agony but I will put on a cheerful face and get on with it, because I have to. For someone to tell me the level of my pain is not bad enough for treatment is insulting because they cannot feel my pain unless they are God.
