"A&E Experience"

About: Royal Free Hospital

Incident 17/07/2013 After making a 999 call due to falling from a height onto glass - slicing the top of my right leg open, I waited over 2 hours with police officers for an ambulance to arrive. On arrival the ambulance crew just put me in the ambulance without even looking at my wound (the police officer bandaged me up). When we got to the Royal Free as we walked through the doors the staff member who 'books you in' was standing there smoking and shouted over "I'll be 5 minutes" I then waited in the room still bleeding through my bandage for them to finish their cigarette - Unacceptable. I was put in the waiting room and waited for 2 hours before I was seen, i asked the receptionist if they new how long the wait would be as by this point blood was running down my leg, they rudely dismissed me and told me to sit down. I was later called through to see the nurse who was unsure if I needed an X-ray or Stitches or if they could just glue my wound closed. On seeking a second opinion from who I believe was the Sister they said just stitch the wound to the nurse responded with "we don't have any stitches" so they replied glue it then. After telling them how appalled I was by there lack of care they found enough stitches to give me 2 then covered the wound in steri-strips. I was then rushed out with no guidance I was not informed if the stitches where dissolvable or not? How I care for them or when they need taking out. Throughout the evening I just felt like an inconvenience to every NHS staff member I came across who all had a lack of interest in me and what they where doing.
