I have visited mental hospitals in other areas during my career as a Criminal Justice Social Worker. This was my first visit to a patient relative. One paricular admonistrative staff member was most off hand, speaking while walking away.. There were no toilet facilities (under repair) near the entrance and no alternative directions to facilities. No one was at the reception to advise on toilet facilities. I asked a person entering the restaurant .(presumably staff). They entered and never replied to my query.. I do wonder if some staff working in this environment become hardened and insensitive to patients and their visitors. I appreciate working with mentally ill is demanding and difficult but common courtesy must prevail.
