" Magnolia Rehab Unit - Doncaster & Bassetlaw Trust"

About: Tickhill Road Hospital

(as the patient),

In 2005 I had a major operation and a stoke. First I was in the Royal Hallamshire and then I was transferred to Doncaster Royal. After that I was transferred to the Magnolia Rehabilitation Unit and was in there for several weeks.

The physio there was absolutely great but I felt that many other parts of the care in Magnolia at that time were poor. The nursing staff were Ok but some of the care staff in my opinion really should not have been doing the job. I once rang the bell and no-one came for over an hour becuase they were swapping shifts.

I did not feel involved in my care there. They kept a big book about all the patients and what was happening with them, which was fair enough, and you could ask to look in it. But they never asked you what you wanted to happen - I felt it was all being done to me not with me.

Many of the patients were quite disabled and once when I was having breakfast one of them sneezed and it went all over my food. But when I complained the auxillary made me feel that it was my fault, that because he was disabled, I should understand and not mind what happened to my breakfast.

Also it was not as clean as it could have been.
