At 05.30 on Sunday 23rd June, we accessed the OOH service for a resident who was unwell. This client was suffereing from a UTI and was in moderate discomfort. Spoke to OOH GP who prescribed Nitrofurantoin Capsules - this was prescribed verbally. We were asked to collect the prescription from the Community Hospital which we did immediatley. Upon receipt of the medication we noted - it was in an unsealed envelope. Written on the end of the envelope was the patient's name and medication detail. The strip of medication enclosed had 3 capsules missing from it. There was no indication as to how many capsules there should have been dispensed. This is not a complaint, just an observation of improper dispensing which may need to be monitored.
