I was admitted to Gillies Ward last week for Breast Cancer surgery after being diagnosed a few weeks earlier. I have to say that although my stay was short I was blown away by the kindness dignity and respect with which I was treated. The media would have us believe that the NHS is in crisis, but the bottom line is that it's all about the people giving the care and providing the service. For me in Gillies Ward my care was faultless, the ward was clean, the porters efficient and empathetic, the catering staff accommodating and efficient, and the nursing staff are on top of their game on all shifts. I have spent much of my working life managing NHS Support Services in different parts of the country so I was a little apprehensive. But the staff on that ward did me proud. Thank you so much! I would also like to point out that I am on a journey with this illness so have also spent time in the Breast Unit and again I have found exactly the same level of care and facilities. It continues to put my mind at ease at what could have been a very worrying and traumatic time. I can't speak highly enough of my whole experience so far and I hope this can be passed on to all the disciplines involved.
