My Stepfather (aged 82) was discharged on Friday afternoon - to be cared for by his 93 year old wife ! He was still infected, in a lot of pain & his family had to cancel wedding arrangements over the weekend to give him 24 hour care ! The district nurse said that they were instructed to only visit him every other day, although after visiting him said that they would visit every day. They did not have the correct bags/dressings & the ward would not let us have some when we phoned on Sunday. They also said that the hospital repeatedly discharge patients on Friday without care over the weekend. Has the NHS dropped to the these low standards of care for the elderly ?
