"Good care but admin could improve"

My son attended children's a&e on thursday evening with an injury which transpired to be a very bad break. He was admitted to the children's ward within a few hours and had orthopaedic surgery the next day. My only slight criticism is that as the operation was on a friday evening, I didn't receive a discharge summary (as admin don't work weekends), so we are going to fracture clinic on Monday with details written on a post note. I also didn't receive any post operative feedback from the consultants as to what they did or how i my sons operation went. On the saturday morning i asked what time the consultant round was. i was informed that on a weekend there was only one orthopaedic team working and dependant on the theatre schedule, it could be any time and they just turn up when they turn up! i needed to get some supplies in case we were there for the day waiting and popped out for 20 mins and typically that's when the round took place, so i missed them and the chance to get feedback.I think communication could be improved in this aspect, i.e a 10 min advance notice of a ward round? Other than these slight glitches and my worry over turning up to fracture clinic with post it note, I was pleased with the service. The nurses on the children's ward were excellent.
