While NHS I under unbearable pressure from government policy and cuts, I find the reaction of staff in a major hospital dreadful. What is happening is that patients (including me) take out their frustration on staff and staff treat patients in a very rough almost cruel contemptuous fashion. I have been referred to UCH 3 times in last 3 months, not a situation I enjoy at all. It has always been because of severe abdominal pain which is then classified as diverticular disease or IBS. Then discharged with morphine for pain and told they do not know what is causing the pain! Has UCH become the Ministry of Truth? Some Stalinist nightmare out of Cancer Ward? I still have pain spend most of my time in bed, sick and very depessed, almost suicidal with no advice from anyone. A@E is like going voluntarily into the gulag - which is all I am advised to do by my GP who does not want to keep giving me large amounts of morphine to use at home. I do not want to become a drug addict but that seems the only choice. What do I do? Complaints are pointless, PALS useless, and everyone so demoralised they no longer care but just want to get through the day. It is unbearable and is creating so much misery for patients who are simply not being treated.
