"My father was diagnosed with bowel ..."

About: North Tyneside General Hospital

(as a relative),

What I liked

My father was diagnosed with bowel cancer in May at North Tyneside Hospital. He had subsequent short stays in hospital before he died. He was taken into hospital and into a general ward where he stayed for 3 days, while dying and died during visiting hours with visitors calling across the ward to each other.

What could be improved

He could have been moved somewhere private to die with dignity and in private.

On behalf of the Trust, can I offer sincere condolences following the loss of your father. I am unable to identify the ward from your comments, however all wards try to accommodate poorly and dying patients in side wards whenever possible. We address the privacy and dignity of our patients in the highest regard and are so sorry if we were unable to find a suitable room for your father.

Your comments will be shared with the senior nursing staff and all attempts will be made to avoid this situation in future.
