"Uncaring hospital"

About: Prospect Park Hospital

My son has been admitted to this hospital several times. The staff each time dismiss me as a parent/carer. It doubled the upset already experienced going through the anguish of seeing a loved ones mental health decline, its bring you down with them and the staff seem to spend more time in their office on wards or sitting down recording everything, rather than actually talking and more importantly listening. Staff are cold, unfriendly and dismissive of my concerns, creating further anguish.

We are very sorry to hear that you feel dismissed as a carer/parent. The carer role is something we value greatly and we do not want anyone using our services to experience the feelings you report. We would be very grateful if you could tell us more details to help us address the issues specifically, if you feel able please do contact the Nurse Consultant for Prospect Park Hospital (Sue McLaughlin: 01189605241). In any case all our ward mangers will be made aware of this so they can address it within their teams. We have just devised a new training programme for staff on working with carers and we will use your comment within the training to raise awareness of how carers have experienced the service. Thank you for your feedback.
