"Elderly patient with dementia pneumonia and c..."

About: Sandwell General Hospital

My mother was admitted to a side room due to her infection.she was incontinent and the door was often left wide open for 'whoever' happened to be passing to witness her lying in her own faeces. Staff frequently lay her down to adjust bedclothes when her lungs were full of fluid and she went blue in the face. Staff- a endless stream of people devoid of any human compassion or basic social skills who were obviously did not enjoy what they did and made my mothers last days absolutely intolerable. Speaking with chief executive and head of nursing changed very little. On the day she died my mother indicated pain and inability to urinate. The head 'nurse' who shall remain nameless however I still remember during the 4 weeks on your ward you found it too much too even excange any basic pleasantries with me nor any eye contact- felt it 'too soon' to fit a catheter. We were afraid to leave her alone and when we did walk in unannounced she would lays be very distressed - food left out of reach ,lying in faeces. Those days haunt me and will forever. Thankyou to those who did absolutely nothing. God sees you Lyndon 4 The chances of this being published are nil

I am very sorry that you had such a bad experience of your mothers care. We work very hard indeed to try and ensure that every patient has their needs cared for and that staff are always caring and compassionate. If you want to contact me I would be happy to look into this further. Mike Sharon Acting Chief Executive. Mikesharon@nhs.net
