"my stay was hell"

About: Rotherham Hospital

To start with a lot of staff were rude and unhelpful, cleanliness was none existent I was given water that tasted of bleach, the cupboard/locker at the side of my bed had someones blood splattered all up it and the bathroom was thick in mold. The staff were all too distracted with chatting about there night out/the weather than to give me my pain killers on time. Pain killers I was prescribed every two hours, I was left regularly between 6 and 7 hours at a time without any medication because no one could be bothered to get me any. Due to the staffs neglect and incompetence I was in there 14 weeks and then came out with more medical problems, including a blood clot and nurovirus. The final straw was the completed neglect of the staff they managed to put an anal suppository in the wrong place, and then had the audacity to say I must have put it there myself! The hospital has fallen apart, overpaid lazy specialists and nurses who cant be bothered to do the job they are paid to do. Utterly disgusting and I am in talks with a solicitor to take legal action against them - Do not use Rotherham hospital, go the extra distance and get to Sheffield.

Thank you for taking the time to post your experience at our hospital. The Chief Nurse is appalled to hear of the care and treatment you have received from our staff and apologises most sincerely for their unacceptable behaviour. This is absolutely not the standard of care or attitude we expect any of our staff to display. I am also most concerned to read your comments in relation to the cleanliness of our hospital and will ensure that our Facilities Manager is made aware so that she can address this with her staff. You do not state the ward or wards that you were admitted to during your lengthy stay with us and the Chief Nurse would be very grateful if you would take a little more of your time to contact our Patient Services department at complaints@rothgen.nhs.uk or telephone 01709 424461, to allow us to undertake a thorough investigation of your experience and identify the ward (s) and team (s) you refer to. This will allow us to take appropriate steps to ensure no other patient can have such an unacceptable experience and I would be grateful if you would please accept my most sincere apologies for what has been a very unpleasant experience. With best wishes, Rebecca
