My dear friend is now very unwell with Leukaemia and when last weighed was 3 Stone 4 pounds. She is unable to move from her couch and is in constant pain. Her late husband abused her over many years but was particularly good friends with her GP and discussed her care multidisciplinary care plan before he died of an alcohol related illness. For some reason she has been put on a violent patient scheme but has never been assessed or given any treatment. She now can barely eat and drink and has apparently gastroenteritis although that is not a confirmed diagnosis but I would expect this is a symptom of her illness. Unfortunately it is unlikely she will live a great deal longer.
What is sickening is that her GP refuses to visit her, she has no services or equipment and she is being refused any direct medical assistance and she is powerless to change her GP because of this status she has been given. She is very bright and astute and clearly desperate for some palliative care. A woman who has given her life to helping others should not be treated in this way in her last few weeks or months.
