It is really difficult to get an appointment at my surgery. I rang 15 times this morning and each time got an engaged signal. I was successful on the 16th attempt. This is really frustrating and I know that others experience the same difficulty. I have the luxury of having the time to do this. Those who have children or lead otherwise busy lives are unlikely to be able to devote the time to doing this.
I have a suggestion as to how GP practices could be more responsive to public opinion: Every school has to have a Board of Governors. As an ex-headteacher I am aware of just how valuable the members of the Board were to my management of the school. They helped me and my staff to be more responsive to opinion. I would like to see a similar set up for GP surgeries. The Board could comprise of practice users as well as those from professional backgrounds allied to medicine.
I really hope that this suggestion might be considered.
