I woke up this morning unable to open my left eye, it was covered in crusty, yellow puss, was very red and swollen and very sore. I went to the walk in centre at arrowe park at 9am. I had to wait 2 hours until I saw a triage nurse, she said she would refer me straight to the doctor, nearly an hour later I saw another nurse as there were no doctors available. At first she was going to get antibiotic eye drops prescribed to me but after talking to a doctor they said it looked that bad I would need intravenous antibiotics and got me admitted to the acute assessment unit, I arrived at this unit at 1pm. I was put in chairs as there weren't any available beds. I left this unit at 7pm, 6 hours after being admitted and 9 hours after arriving at the hospital. In this 9 hours I was offered no treatment, not even an eye wash, I was sat in a room with a sore, swollen eye that was constantly dripping yellow puss that I had to try and wipe away with a tissue I had. I only saw the senior doctor after 5.30pm. My treatment went from having intravenous antibiotics to having oral antibiotics to being sent home with a tiny tube of ointment that I have found out you can buy over the counter!! I don't understand why they let me sit in pain and discomfort for so long, it took over an hour for this ointment to arrive at the ward. I was then told to call an eye clinic on Monday but if I start to loose my vision to go to a&e. Moral of the story don't get sick on a weekend as hospitals obviously don't work properly on a Saturday or Sunday!!!
"A whole wasted Saturday"
