"My local CCG won't fund my chronic pain relief"

About: NHS Vale of York CCG York Hospital / Pain Management

(as the patient),

I was referred to York Hospital pain clinic for facet joint injection in my neck due to chronic nerve pain. I was told that these injections were not deemed as an essential service and I would have to pay £200 per injection.

I found out that other PCTs (as they were called last year) were doing these injections for free. I got an injection last year for free with the intervention of my MP.

I now find myself in the same position as last year as I am now in the Vale of York care commissioning group area and they still see these injections as non-essential.

I know that other CCGs are supplying these injections to patients for free. Why can't YDH? It's disgraceful to tell me that my chronic pain is minor and non-essential. Anybody who suffers constant nerve pain will tell you that these injections are essential and should be supplied for free like other PCT's are doing.

I would be interested in hearing from people in other CCG areas who are receiving these injections for free. I am writing to my MP on this matter and any information on this area would be much appreciated.

I have spoken to YDH PALS service who state that the York care commissioning group will not fund these injections.

I asked my GP to refer me to another Hospital who do the injections for free.

Apparently it doesn't matter which Hospital you go to the York CCG will not pay for the procedure. So much for NHS choices, in my opinion this is the health postcode lottery that the government state doesn't exist.
