I have been into Grantham Hospital a number of times recently, in various departments. Without fail the staff have been very professional, kept me informed of what was happening and have done a good job. Despite being very busy the staff have also been lovely and friendly and considerate to my feelings. For example the nurse who held my hand during an unpleasant procedure, and the anaesthetic staff who, again, held my hand to calm my nerves before my GA. The nurses on the day ward were excellent, keeping me up to date with the schedule but after the operation taking care of me, ensuring I was warm and comfortable and conjuring up biscuits to tempt me to eat. The ward was due to close at 8pm but the nurse didn't hurry me and worked late to make sure I was ready to go home or to another ward if I wanted to (my choice). I had my own bed for the day in a private women's only side ward. The surgeons explained the operation as clearly as possible beforehand and answered any questions. I just want to say to anyone coming into hospital, remember that the nurses and doctors are very busy and have a lot of people to look after.They are not responsible for delays so don't take out your frustrations on them. Ask questions and find out as much as you can about your treatment, the staff will help you. If you are polite and gracious you will receive the same back.
